18-year-old Honey Mooncie has given us the perfect wintry track for snuggling up by the fire for some restorative alone time. ‘Nice To Have A Break’ showcases the natural talent of this Sussex-based artist. Inspired by jazz forms of yesteryear, this is a sparse bluesy song frames Honey Mooncie’s pure vocals, channeling the likes of Audrey Hepburn’s Moon River’ or contemporary artist Bruno Major. It’s refashioning of the well-worn wisdom that distance makes the heart grow fonder, as Mooncie concurs, “it’s about taking time out of a relationship in the hope to make it stronger.” Written alongside Tobie Tripp, a long-time collaborator of Tom Misch, ‘Nice To Have A Break’ is also a departure from the world of heavy production in this favour lofi meditation. - Hannah Thacker [Photo credit: Louis Bryant]
